Brazilian Capoeira in Colorado Springs

Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, dance, music and acrobatics. In capoeira classes students develop physically, emotionally, and mentally as they train Capoeira's challenging movements, learn to play traditional instruments, sing music in Portuguese, and apply their training in an exciting improvised "game" that helps students develop their personal strength, response time, creativity, courage, and self-expression.

What is Capoeira?

Capoeira was developed in Brazil, but its history extends to Africa and tribes from Angola. Slaves living on Brazilian plantations who weren't allowed to openly practice traditional forms of self-defense developed an ingenious method of disguising their training by combining it with dance-like movements, singing, and the rhythms of primitive instruments. The result was a "game" of fluid ground movements, spinning kicks, and daring acrobatics set to the energetic clapping and singing of spectators. Capoeira has evolved over centuries into an exciting combination of martial arts, dance, acrobatics, and live music. What is Capoeira? The best way to answer this question is to try a class and experience capoeira for yourself!

Check out what our students are saying about our program!

"I am a 20 year veteran Martial Artist but Capoeira was not one of the styles that I studied. I was looking for a form of Karate that my kids would enjoy and that was different from the typical styles that are available. I brought my family by to watch a class and we were all extremely impressed.

"Capoeira combines physical fitness, Martial Arts techniques, culture and music which create a unique experience that can't be found in any other style that I've seen. The classes are fun, entertaining and a fantastic workout.

"If you are looking to get into shape and learn an exciting Martial Art that you will enjoy practicing, you owe it to yourself to come by Brazilian Capoeira and watch a class."

--Tony Orr -- Parent of two students

"Not only did it help me get in shape, but the people there were amazing. They were very welcoming and inviting. The instructors were not condesending at all. Anyone could start out for the first time and feel welcome.

"The fact that it is so different from any other martial arts makes it all the more interesting and cool:) I love telling people that I train Capoeira and telling them the history behind it. I really do love Capoeira!"

--Abby Laxson -- Brazilian Capoeira student
